Debbie Murphy is a Texas and Nationally registered licensed paramedic, entrepreneur, mother of four, and lifelong fighter. This is her story — told in full, because the world needs to hear it.
CHAPTER ONE
Born With Purpose,
Shaped by Hardship
Debbie Abish Murphy was born on December 18, 1990, in Provo, Utah — the daughter of Nefi Lopez Resendiz and Debby Gabriela Ovalle Maldonado. From the beginning, those who knew her saw something unmistakable: a tender heart, an iron will, and an instinct to reach toward others in pain.
Life gave Debbie no easy road. She faced challenges most people never encounter, and she learned early what it felt like to be misunderstood, underestimated, and unseen. But those same trials built something extraordinary inside her — a reservoir of compassion so deep it would one day become the engine of an entire foundation.
In 2018, during one of the defining spiritual moments of her life, a Patriarch laid his hands on her head and spoke words that would echo across everything she built thereafter.
She didn't know it then, but those words were a blueprint. The Debbie Murphy Foundation is that blueprint made real.

CHAPTER THREE
When the System
Turns Its Back
What followed at ESD was a systematic betrayal. Rather than support a fellow paramedic who had openly disclosed her needs, the organization chose a different path — one of stigma, retaliation, and exclusion.
The legal case is ongoing. But the most important thing Debbie did wasn't file a complaint.
She built the Debbie Murphy Foundation. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit designed specifically for people like her — first responders who face toxic workplaces, workers with disabilities who are pushed out rather than supported, families in crisis who need real help rather than hollow policies.
Around the same time she was fighting for her career, Debbie sat with a tool designed to tell her what her accumulated experiences had made her. What came back was striking in its clarity:
That is the woman behind this foundation. Not a polished nonprofit executive. A real person, who has been through real things, and refuses to let those things be the end of the story.
Debbie is also a devoted mother of four. Her children are the reason she fights — for a world that treats people with dignity, that takes disabilities seriously, and that gives every person the chance to contribute their gifts fully.
CHAPTER TWO
Debbie chose a life of service. She became a Texas and Nationally registered licensed paramedic — a credential that demands courage, composure, and the willingness to run toward crises that most people run from. She didn't do it for recognition. She did it because saving lives is what she was built for.
In July 2024, she joined an ESD 911 service — initially as an EMT, with the written assurance from EMS Chief that she would transition to a full paramedic role within six months. She showed up ready. She worked overtime shifts, asked for additional training, never called in sick, and was once called her chief's "favorite" for her "desire to learn and be the best she could be."
She also did something most people are afraid to do: she disclosed her disabilities upfront. Learning differences. Mental health conditions. Not as an excuse — as an act of honesty, and as a request for the basic accommodations the law requires.

You analyze it, document it, and move on. At your core: a fierce, grounded, no-nonsense protector — with deep wells of emotion you keep tightly sealed, until you find someone or something that feels safe enough to unlock them.”

The Foundation Is
the Answer
Every program the Debbie Murphy Foundation offers was born from a gap Debbie personally fell into. Emergency financial relief — because she knows what it feels like to face termination with no safety net. Disability advocacy — because she experienced firsthand what happens when accommodations are denied. Trauma-informed peer support — because she knows that healing requires more than a hotline number.
The foundation serves first responders facing on-duty injuries or toxic workplaces, military veterans navigating invisible wounds, survivors of violence and discrimination, and Texas families in acute crisis. Everyone the system tends to overlook first.
Her patriarchal blessing promised that she would have "a significant influence for good on her family and acquaintances." It promised that through challenges, she would learn to "assist and comfort others through their challenges."
She took that promise seriously. The Debbie Murphy Foundation is the proof.
